How to Take Oratane
How should I take Oratane?
Always take Oratane exactly as directed by your doctor.
Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on the severity of your acne and your body weight.
How many capsules should I take each day?
If you feel your current dose is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor.
Your doctor may adjust the dose depending on how your body responds to treatment.
Only your doctor should change your Oratane dose.
It is important not to miss doses or take more than prescribed.
If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose the following day. Simply take your next dose at the usual time and continue with your normal schedule.
Continue taking Oratane until your doctor tells you to stop.

While taking Oratane:
- Take the capsules with meals
- Do not chew or suck the capsules
- Swallow the capsules whole with water or another non-alcoholic drink
- Take each dose at the recommended time
- Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully
Following these instructions will help ensure that Oratane is used appropriately.
What changes may I notice after starting Oratane?
When you first start taking Oratane, your acne may appear to become worse.
This does not necessarily mean that the medicine is not working.
If this happens, continue taking Oratane as prescribed by your doctor and contact your doctor if you have any concerns.
The acne flare-up usually settles within a few weeks, after which your acne should begin to improve.
During the first four weeks of treatment, you may notice that your skin becomes much drier than before. This is because Oratane reduces the amount of oil produced by the skin.
You may also find that you need to wash your hair less frequently.
Your acne should begin to show signs of improvement during the second month of treatment and should continue to improve throughout the course.
When I stop taking Oratane
At the end of treatment, return any remaining Oratane capsules to your doctor for appropriate disposal.
Never give your Oratane to another person with acne.
Oratane is a prescription-only medicine and must only be taken under medical supervision.
By the end of treatment, most of your acne should have cleared. Your skin may continue to improve for one to two months after completing treatment.
Treatment-related side effects should also begin to improve after the treatment ends.
